Combo Chimbita has signed to ANTI- records and released a new single “Testigo.” The group consists of first-generation New Yorkers Carolina Oliveros, Prince of Queens, Niño Lento, and Dilemastronauta. The group has deep Colombian roots and “champions tropical futurism – the idea that ancestral knowledge can represent a magical and substantial future outside the boundaries of white, western ideals.”
As per the signing announcement:
“After playing together for years, these first-generation New Yorkers with Colombian roots—including powerhouse vocalist Carolina Oliveros, synth and bassist Prince of Queens, guitarist Niño Lento, and drummer Dilemastronauta—began experimenting with different traditional musical styles during their late night residencies at Barbès in Brooklyn. Exploring the connections between visual identity and improvisational long-form trips, Combo Chimbita came together as a four-piece band after they started encouraging more vocals by Carolina Oliveros, who tightens the rhythm with her guacharaca.”
A full length or EP vinyl release has not yet been announced, but we will keep you updated on releases.
